My favorite Firefox extensions/add-ons
My favorite extensions for the Firefox web browser include:
- Flashblock: stops all of the flash on a page from loading automatically. (You click on a placeholder to cause individual flash items on the page to load.) This plugin thus protects you from those insanely annoying flash advertisements.
- Adblock Plus: prevents internet advertisements from appearing on web pages. The plus: ad-free browsing. The negative: web sites you go to lose revenue and perhaps go out of business. If you use this extension, you should also install the Filterset.G Updater, which obtains updated lists of what is and is not an ad.
- Remember Mismatched Domains: install this if you keep getting a message that the domain name doesn’t match the certificate name. (And if you know that this problem is caused by a mistake and not an attack!)
-
- Forecastfox: adds the weather forecast to the bottom of your browser window.
- Session Manager: a very multipurpose add-on! It saves the tabs that you have open, so when you quit and restart the browser you are open on the same tabs. It also provides an “undo close tab” function. If you’ve accidentally closed a tab, you can now reopen it (for as many tabs back as you set up in the preferences). It provides other tab functions, as well.
- Del.icio.us: I’m trying a number of del.icio.us extensions. The official, classic del.icio.us buttons. The official, new del.icio.us Bookmarks. And the third-party SimpleDel.icio.us.
You can find many other extensions on the official Mozilla Firefox Add-ons site.
